Why The Hell Do We Need A Marketing Plan For Our Website?

by Dan Gershenson

It's a marketing plan for a website: Ours.

In this blog post based the first episode of on our YouTube series "Crawl Space," we're starting from scratch, guiding you through the essentials of developing a complete marketing plan for your website.

Let’s dive into what impacts your site’s visibility and how you can enhance it without needing to become a technical SEO expert.

Yeah, But Why a Marketing Plan?

Before building anything, a solid plan is essential, especially in SEO or incorporating AI for SEO. We’ve developed a plan consisting of around sixty-five tasks, prioritized as high, medium or low. This segmentation helps focus on the most critical aspects first, ensuring an efficient workflow.

Starting with the Basics

We're kicking things off from the foundation. The aim isn’t to transform you into a technical SEO wizard but to highlight key factors influencing your site's visibility and user interactions. Remember, this is all about understanding in plain English—nothing over your head.

Why a Marketing Plan is Essential for SEO

Developing a robust marketing plan for SEO or AI-enhanced SEO is crucial. A plan provides structure and priorities—what should come first and why it’s important. Using my experience, I have devised a plan consisting of about sixty-five tasks. These tasks can be expanded or adjusted based on additional insights from other projects or learning environments.

Prioritizing Tasks

I've already classified these tasks into high and medium priorities, guiding us to focus on the most impactful actions first. On the left of our plan, you'll see significant setup steps for your site. We’ll delve into each of these categories:

7 Key Areas of Focus

1. Technical SEO

We'll explore technical improvements, understanding their impact and where potential issues may arise.

2. Keyword and Competitor Research

Beyond knowing keywords, competitor research provides insights into who shares them, identifies gaps, and reveals opportunities for leveraging against your competitors.

3. Content Audit and Creation

This aspect, which is a personal strength, involves auditing your content to identify areas for enhancement. Instead of a complete overhaul, we’ll find ways to elevate existing content.

4. On-Page SEO:

   - Linked closely with content creation, this comes after the content audit. Initially, writing should be audience-focused and conversational; keywords can be strategically incorporated afterward.

5. **Link Building Strategy:**

   - Often seen as an external effort, we’ll also cover the significance of internal linking.

6. **Local SEO:**

   - For service-based businesses like law firms, establishing local dominance is vital. We’ll delve into strategies for becoming the go-to expert in your city.

7. **Incorporating AI:**

   - Given its growing importance, we’ll integrate AI into search strategies across these categories.

### Conclusion

With these seven categories, you’ll have a comprehensive SEO plan, allowing for a structured approach rather than a reactive one. This orderly method will give you the confidence and clarity needed to effectively tackle SEO challenges. Let's get right into it!

By following this guide, you’ll not only understand your website’s visibility but also create a plan to continuously improve it. Embrace your marketing plan as a roadmap to online success.
